[請益] "in/by/on doing so"的差別

And at last, researchers have been able to see--in three dimensions--

the gyroids that create some of these colors. In doing so, they've gained

a greater understanding of how butterflies produce them.

(研究員終於得以藉由3D立體影像, 見到產生部份這類顏色的gyroids.

如此一來, 他們對於蝴蝶如何產生這些色彩就獲得了更深入的瞭解)

(1)in doing so (2)by doing so (3)on doing so

這三者語意上的差異為何?

我上網查了蠻久  但資料不多

且說法差異甚大  似乎沒有統一的講法

我是覺得用哪個都可以...意思好像都一樣

有人能幫我解惑嗎@_@

推 noruas:in doing so => be engaged in doing so
→ noruas:(in = 投入於..)
→ noruas:by doing so => by:藉由
→ noruas:on doing so => on:指時間(在那一刻;當時)
→ noruas:原句用in/by doing so都說得通,但in是最適當的.
→ noruas:但不能說on doing so, 不然會很奇怪.
→ noruas:P.S. on也可換成upon.
→ xiaoa:看全句, 因為這傢伙是從句字的別處調來的
