未解的疑問...:
3. "Fingerhut Professor of Education"
請問這是種什麼樣的教授職稱呢?(包括最前面的 Fingerhut)
前後文是:
文章作者建議父母邀請青春期子女的朋友來家裡共用晚餐,並且提到:
Dr. Ron Wolfson, the Fingerhut Professor of Education at American Jewish
University, notes that "guest teenagers are envious of this kind of time
with family."
(呃.. 這樣的前後文不知道有沒有用..)
6. Michael Resnick, activist professor of pediatrics and public health at
the University of Minnesota, describes adolescents as "resources to be
developed, not problems to be solved."
請問這裡的 activist professor 該怎麼解釋呢?
這一段在原文裡是沒有逗號的,而且是某章節的開頭,
所以在這裡應該原本就是兩個詞連在一起用,
只是我看不懂要怎麼去理解這樣的用法..
另外也想請教大家,
1. 若在某本書裡 (非小說),作者用 slutty 來形容某個例子裡面的女生,
那麼這可以解釋成....賤的意思嗎?
2. 有些國中生或高中生上課有問題、或是覺得老師作業出太重,
卻不敢舉手發問或下課時去找老師談。文章作者認為:
To a child who is resistant to talking with his teacher, you can say:
"Students who go to see the teacher do better
because the teacher knows they care."
Even if your child absolutely refuses to ask an adult for help,
you've planted the possibility in his mind.
我理解的意思是,
"去找老師的學生,成績/課業表現會比較好,
因為老師知道這些學生是真的在乎自己的成績/表現。"
可是這樣子看起來的邏輯實在很怪,
就算 "老師知道學生在乎自己的表現",也不見得會導致 "學生表現好" 的結果,
不是嗎?
我有哪裡誤會了嗎?
