標題[文法] whatever用法

Their ancestors struggled to live in this harsh land by hunting, fishing, and
making use of
whatever natural resources were available.
我理解複合關代whatever的方式都是把它換成 anything which，然後再用形容詞子句思
考，例如：Whatever he said is true或是I am interested in whatever he is doing.
查字典後發現whatever也可以當形容詞
例如：He read whatever books he can get
或是 I can handle whatever problems you throw at me.
但是原題的whatever，如果當複合關代的話，
後面多了natural resources就無法用anything which替換，
如果當形容詞後面有were available更是奇怪，反而覺得應該要把were去掉。
所以，這題的
whatever到底是什麼用法阿？
