As to why (B) is incorrect,
"I don't know what to do" is missing the subject
Usually we would say
"I don't know what to do with it."
Another way of using "what to do" would be
"I don't know what to do now."
Similarly,
I don't know how to do
is missing the object, commonly "it"
-> I don't know how to do it.
Similarly,
asking for implies something should follow.
e.g. I am asking for the answers to the question here
