為徹底解答 What is the name of the girl ___ you want to know? 這句話的意思，和
先行詞到底是 the name 還是 the girl，還是兩者視情境都有可能，我在
usingenglish.com 這個專門討論英語的論壇向人討教，發了兩篇文，也很快得到回應，
主要有兩位英文為母語者的回答，其一在學術界，另一則是板主moderator同時也是英語
教師。細節請有興趣者自行前往閱讀，這裡只簡要摘述如下。
1. 問此句的關代可以用什麼，以及先行詞可能是什麼。

獲得一個大拇指表示支持。
先行詞：一人同意我認為 name 不能為先行詞的看法：

「A 問 B 名單」這情境中，如果有人說出 What's the name of the girl that/which
you want(ed) to know? 或 What's the girl's name that/which you want(ed) to
know? 這話，是可能的，但這句話文法不對。
除了文法不對，這個問題的用字也不是這個「A 問 B 名單」語境最自然的說法。（這點
支持 RuinAngel 君的看法。）
之後列舉了好幾個更自然恰當的說法，都不用 know。
最後，兩位母語人士再次確定，the name 在「文法上可接受」前提下，不可能為先行詞
：
“The name list scenario gives a context in which that sentence could be used
casually, with 'name' as the referent. It doesn't make "name" a grammatically
acceptable antecedent though.”
我說：
“This rules out 'the name' as antecedent, leaving 'the girl' as the only
possibility.”
他們回答：
“That is what we said in the other thread.”
也就是回到第一個連結最後的那句話：
“But, the referent can't be 'name' for the reason you've given.”
希望各位看了以上兩位比我本人更具可信度的母語人士/英語教師的見解後，這個先行詞
的爭議可以就此打住。
