標題[請益] lack and lack for

lack 這個字的有vi & vt
但是不太清楚他們之間的差異,
查過幾本字典後
也發現意思上滿相似的
請問該如何辨別呢?
查過Merriam-Webster, Collins, BNC 等有關lack as a (vi) 的用法後,對於 lack for 的用法更困惑了,Merriam-Webster 和 Collins 都有此用法,但因為BNC只有七筆資料,不知道是否lack for這種用法不popular呢?
謝謝您
查到的資料如下:
Merriam-Webster
1: to be deficient or missing <time is lacking for a full explanation>
2: to be short or have need of something <he will not lack for advisers>
Collins
when intr, often foll by in or for to be deficient (in) or have need (of)
