這應該是土地銀行的試題，這題的原句應該是

....sat there without anything to do. 意思是『無所事事地坐在那裡』。

這裡用不定詞to do較適合。

原句可看作：

Mary sat there without anything (for her) to do.

這樣還原之後，你應該就比較清楚了。
