There had been two other swimmers to compete with -- one from Niger, the
other from Tajikistan -- but both had jumped the gun, dived in to the pool
and been disqualified.

其中jumped the gun 是啥意思呢?
是一種貫用法嗎?
是指槍舉起時，他們跳水嗎?
