推 Widder8:感謝哦! 非常受用~ 06/22 19:40
※ 引述《Widder8 (維德八)》之銘言:
: 在《Practical English Usage》裡面,
: 介紹while的使用時機:"simultaneous long action"
: 裡面解釋:We usually use while to say that two longer actions or situtations
: go/went on at the same time. We can use progressive or simple tenses.
: 並給了兩個例句:While you were reading the paper, I was working.
: John cooked supper while I watched TV.
: while還有其他用法,我想請教的是,在"simultaneous long action"這個用法之下,
: 書上給的兩個例句是同時使用進行式或同時使用簡單式,
: 能否主句和子句兩個不同的時態混著用呢?
: 例如 1.子句裡用簡單式、主句裡用進行式
: 例:John was cooking supper while I watched TV.
: 或 2.主句裡用簡單式、子句裡用進行式 呢?
: 例:John cooked supper while I was watching TV.
: 謝謝~
1和2是正確的,等同while兩邊都用過去進行。Swan沒有多提,是考慮學習者的程度。
並不是只能兩邊同時都用過去簡單,或都用過去進行。簡要來說,若為持續性動詞
(durative verb),是可以允許的。亦即可得,四種組合,而句意無太大差異。
In sentences referring to two past acts that are in progress simultaneously,
the pass progressive form may occur with both of the actions in progress,
with only one, or with neither.
He was watching television while his wife was washing the dishes.
He watched television while his wife was washing the dishes.
He was watching television while his wife washed the dishes.
He watched television while his wife washed the dishes.
