其實我看到的原文是寫

這邊它是用accord這個動詞 而非allow
如果是用allow的話 還原句子後就變成
=> historians have allowed the most....influence to the railroad
老實說我沒看過 "allow something to somebody/something" 這種用法@@
不過可能是我有疏漏也說不定
所以這邊我不太清楚你那本書的作者的想法
但原文是用accord的這點就供你參考囉

: caused by the railroad, the less maniac, the more
: reasonable or at least understanable, "that initial
: mania has come to seem."
: 這個句型是the more...the more的那種句型嗎?又為何
: 會有that的出現呢?
that就是"那個" 你可以想成是 the initial mania
: 3. It was the railroad that made it feasible to ship
: goods long distance "over land".
: 我有查到overland可作為形容詞和副詞用,不過有拆開來
: 變成over land這樣說嗎? 搞不太懂
有over land這樣的用法 這邊應該是用來修飾long distances
然後long distances修飾ship這個動作
類似用法像是travel a long distance/long distances

我說的原文是Leo Marx教授寫的review "Closely Watched Trains"
我知道那本分類字彙裡是寫allowed
作者應該是從Closely Watched Train中擷取段落並加以改寫
