想請教各位下面這一段

其中"and so long as men die, liberty will never perish."

我第一個想到就是"只要人們死亡，自由將永不消逝"。

可是這看起來太奇怪了......。

在這裡它是翻"只有人們逝去，自由將永不毀滅"。

在這裡它翻"就算人都難免一死、自由也不會就此消逝"。

比較通順了，只是我找不到so long as有even if, even though的意思。


還有這裡的兩個翻譯

"只要我們不怕死，自由是永遠不會消失的。"
"只要前仆後繼，自由是不會消滅的。"

為了讓句子通順，把men die解釋成不只是單純的死亡，而是人願意犧牲、不怕犧牲。


不知道各位的看法如何，這句的本意應該是什麼呢?
