[文法] 是用of還是for?

想請教大家該如何分辨使用of和for的差別呢?
例如我要表達"修改這個項目的數量"的英文
是寫"revise the quantity of the item"?
或" revise the quantity for the item"?
還是兩個意思都差不多呢?
其實不只是這個例子,
我常常在寫英文句子的時候, 也都常搞不懂要用of還是for?

例如繳交的期限是1/1的英文是...

"the deadline of the submission is 1/1"?
或
"the deadline for the submission is 1/1"?
