[文法]請教一個問題

今天看到一個句子

Another explorer,Alarcon,traveled up the Gulf of Californiato meet Coronado

,never thinking to explore what wealth might lie beyond the hot California

coastline.


explore之後 由what引導的到底是什麼子句阿?

感覺是名詞子句 但用the thing which取代what 又感覺文意不通


what 在這裡倒底是什麼功能? 又該如何翻譯?

推 tom91002:是名詞子句啊，子句中的主詞是what wealth
   那what wealth 要如何翻譯?

→ anikitake:就字面的"什麼財富",意指主角沒想過要探索有什麼財富
→ anikitake:存在於火熱加勒福尼亞海岸線之外
   恩~~所以就是 any wealth that might lie...的意思嗎?
推 stevenyuan:是間接問句(疑問詞+主動+動詞)  但是主要子句為直述句
   對ㄟ~~好像就是這樣  可想成:他沒打算去探討這個問題 懂了  謝謝你
