句型文法問題

今天在看文章時看到的一段話，
雖然知道大概的意思
可是如果想想句子的結構就不懂了
希望大大可以分析一下結構
it was presumably a joke,but how he lived,to the people whose money this was,i
sn't.
不太懂 whose this was 的地方

推 tom91002:應該是whose money (which) this was
→ dunchee:關係子句: whose money this was  先暫時這樣子看原句->
→ dunchee:(直述句/非關係子句)this was their money (我暫用their，
→ dunchee:較方便，特別是前頭已經有提到the people)
→ dunchee:their: (就是指前頭的the people) the people's
→ dunchee:轉成關係子句，將 their money (/ the people's money) 前
→ dunchee:移，然後用 whose 代 "their(/the people's)"
