[文法] give sth with sth?

翻譯文章一半看到 give sth with sth 這種用法，
我記得一般give後面接完受詞就沒了，覺得很奇怪想來和大家討教這是怎回事。

這是原文：

Protest against liberalism and capitalism had been growing since the end of
the nineteenth century, but war and depression "gave" these protests a mass
base and renewed momentum, "with" the legions of the disaffected ready to be
claimed by any political movement promising to tame markets.
