I think you just jumped to conclusions.
When you said "you're amazing" to an opposite sex, it doesn't have to have
SPECIAL intentions at all. He or she is just expressing how surprised he/she
feels about what you've done. It's a positive feeling though.
I think this expression is natural and neutral.
I said "you're amazing" to some guy friends before, but I didn't feel
anything special for him, and he never misunderstood me.
