標題[Talk] Synthetic Sea: Plastic in the Ocean AND a talk at TED
時間Mon Apr 12 12:25:28 2010
This post is about "Synthetic Sea: Plastic in the Ocean" and
a video Talk at TED.com.
I have to apologize to you if these videos put you in a bad mood.
They are about plastics. Insignificant plastic bottles and bags we humans
consume and dispose on land. Whenever these petroleum based products are
washed away into rivers and gutters, they are taken down to the ocean.
The currents of the ocean take them circling around the global.
And some of these plastic finally end up in their final destination,
a gigantic floating plastic graveyard somewhere
in the ocean the size of texas.
"Maybe UN should be involved, send ships there and clean up the mass,"
this was my first naive and indifferent reaction when I first heard of this
disturbing news.
If only being indifferent and apathetic the problem would solve itself
and disappear…
Due to weathering, these plastics are broken down into
smaller and smaller pieces.
These smaller pieces are not only trapping and choking our marine animals
and the worst of all, these petroleum plastics are already digested and
have already entered our food chain…
