It seems the Americans start taking gap years before college
but I believe this is quite common for youngsters from Europe.
I just met some Germany lads bicycling across the States
at one WMATA station of D.C. In the conversation I wished them
good luck and discussed what they must visit when they
arrived the West Coast ^_*

But for Taiwanese youngsters, they must deal with lots of visa issues
before starting the journey... alas...
