German translation of the developers handbook

Hi
I'm looking forward to contribute to freebsd in the form of translating some 
english docs, I would like to know if there are special criteria or 
prerequisites needed. 
As I never did this before, I would appreciate it, if you could support me in 
the first time with some information.
Is there any initialization work to do, like contributing the documentation 
mailing list (which I've already done), or posting what I'm planning to do?
Are there official contacts?
