SS Rafael Furcal will finally be placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday
due to back stiffness after a week on the bench.
He had been cleared to pinch-hit in Tuesday's game, but his back problem
persisted, prompting the move.
Because the transaction can be backdated, Furcal will be eligible to
return Aug. 18.

Lee on the bereavement list.
The Cubs could recall 1B Micah Hoffpauir from Class AAA (Des Moines) Iowa.
Hoffpauir, who has big-league experience with the Cubs, entered Monday with 20 homers and 87 RBIs. Xavier Nady played first
base Monday, getting two hits.
