Nationals GM Mike Rizzo said Wednesday that he alone will decide when Stephen
Strasburg will be shut down.
Reports this spring suggested that the Nationals would cut Strasburg off
after 160 innings, but the team is now in a pennant race and so things have
become a bit more flexible. "There is no magic number," Rizzo said. "It will
be the eye test. (Nats manager) Davey (Johnson) won't decide and ownership
won't decide. It will be the general manager and that's me." Strasburg
underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery late in the 2010 season.
