Joel Hanrahan (elbow) will undergo season-ending surgery.

Hanrahan was hoping to rehab the injury, but the damage needs to be
surgically repaired. As of now, he's expected to visit with Dr. James Andrews
next week to have the procedure done. Hanrahan, 31, is very unlikely to be
back with the Red Sox and is set to become a free agent in 2014.

Hanrahan said that he didn't really have a choice, as his flexor tendon is
torn off the bone. He's expected to meet with Dr. James Andrews next week for
surgery, which will sideline him for at least six months. There's a chance
that Tommy John surgery will also be required, but we won't know definitively
until next week.
