Dream debut for Messi (6-0)
In an amazing display of football, Argentina thrashed Serbia and
Montenegro to qualify for the second round of the Germany 2006
World Cup. Messi made his debut and scored Argentina's sixth.

It was an impeccable display from the Albiceleste. Serbia and Montenegro,
who had only conceded one goal in qualifying, were played off the park
and let in no less than six on a day that goes down as the worst in that
country's short footballing history. Messi was only on the pitch for 16
minutes, but scored one and set up another. Aged 19, he is the youngest
player to appear in the World Cup for Argentina.

Messi, who had been a last minute doubt with a leg injury, came on in
place of Maxi Rodriguez wearing number 19. The same number he wears at FC
Barcelona.

This gave the sky blue and white supporters even more cause for joy on
what was already an incredible afternoon. Next week, Messi will celebrate
his 19th birthday, but his greatest gift of all has come a week early. The
young star set up Hernan Crespo to make it 4-0 and scored the last of the
goal in an emphatic victory, converting an pass from team mate Tevez.

The goals
It was an authentic lesson in good football. Argentina went ahead as early
as the sixth minute when Juan Pablo Sorin found his way down the left and
followed a one-two with Javier Saviola to allow Maxi Rodriguez to make it
1-0.

In the 31st minute, almost the entire team was involved in the build up

putting up a fight. It needed Leo Messi to put some spark back into a game
that had become a mere formality. He gifted the fourth goal of the day to
Hernan Crespo, and in the 78th minute Tevez made it 5-0 with a fantastic
individual effort. Messi rounded it all off with the sixth of the day with
two minutes left to play.
