Lionel Messi has explained that there was some confusion ocer who should take
the penalty when Barcelona played Villareal in the quarterfinal of the Copa Del
Rey on Thursday evening.
The Blaugrana were awarded a spot kick during the game and Messi has revealed
that he wanted to leave it for Ronaldinho, however the Brazilian was feeling
equally genorous and insisted Messi do the honours - it was saved by goalkeeper
Diego Lopez.
"I went to tell him to take it but in the end it was down to me, the goalkeeper
read it well and ended up saving it. It was an unusual thing to happen," Messi
told Sport Es.
It seems as if Frank Rijkaard has specifically told his players not to talk
with the press after several stars including Ronaldinho and Deco all brushed
cameras and journalists aside after the game at Camp Nou. However Messi,
Victor Valdes, who was a spectator, and Andres Iniesta all spoke to the waiting
press.
Valdes revealed that he is not to worried about his sides chances of getting to
the final.
"All the teams are well equipped, we just want to reach the final, it doesn't
metter who we play," said the Barcelona shot stopper.
Iniesta also backed up his team mate and revealed that reaching the final is
important to the Catalan club.
"Psycologically it was very important to get through this game. We were better
than them and now we are in the semis, this is what counts. I hope we get to
the final," concluded Iniesta.
