Barcelona are locked in talks with Sergio Busquets about a new deal after the
youngster's incredible rise to prominence after his elevation to the first
team this season.
The 20-year-old has won many plaudits in his first campaign at the highest
level and has also attracted a lot of interest from some of Europe's richest
clubs.
Busquets' contract is due to expire at the end of the current season and
Blaugrana technical secretary Txiki Begiristain is desperate to see him ink a
new one.
According to Marca, Barça believe that the playmaker knows of the interest
from other major sides, in particular AC Milan, and that he could use that to
earn himself a larger deal.
Talks have been ongoing between the Catalan giants and Busquets' agent, José
Maria Orobitg, but have yet to produce an outcome after an initial offer was
rejected.
While a four-year deal has been agreed in principal, it is the financial side
that has caused the sticking point with the player knowing what he is worth
and what he could earn elsewhere.
Having not earned many headlines with Barça B, the son of former Blaugrana
keper Carles Busquets has caused a surprise with his strong performances in
the centre of midfield.
Coach Pep Guardiola knows all about the Sabadell-born starlet from his time
in charge of the club's second string and has been instrumental in his rise.
While there is also talk of interest from clubs in England, Sport believe
that Busquets has no intention of leaving Barcelona now that he has a regular
first-team place.
A repeat of what Cesc Fàbregas did is always the fear at Camp Nou, but he
opted to move on without ever competing for a place in the team.
