Re-signing Cesc Fabregas has become Barcelona's main ambition this summer...
Barcelona president Joan Laporta wants to push through a deal to sign Cesc
Fabregas back from Arsenal in his last summer as president at Camp Nou.
The Blaugrana supremo has been bothered throughout his six years at the helm
by the one that slipped through the net after the Gunners snapped up the
midfielder in 2003.
After former president Joan Gaspart resigned, a deal was struck under an
interim administration and when Laporta arrived the same summer he could not
prevent Fabregas from leaving. Ever since, his mission has been to re-sign
the local boy made good.
A sum of €50 million has been put aside and coach Pep Guardiola has stated
that he would welcome the addition of another creative midfielder to compete
with Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
Fabregas himself, according to AS, is also ready to return as he now believes
that Arsenal have slipped and have less chance of winning silverware each
year.
A regular at Camp Nou, the 22-year-old has many friends in the treble winning
Barca squad and would take no time to adapt to a team that play in a style he
was brought up with in the club’s youth ranks.
Barcelona also want four other new players to add a new edge to the squad as
Guardiola wants to ensure that the same complacency that set in after the
2006 Champions League win does not happen again.
Along with former Espanyol right-back Bruno Saltor, Brazilian central
defender Henrique will return from a season-long loan at Bayer Leverkusen.
