Barcelona Admit Defeat And Look For Alternatives To Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas -

Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has said the Blaugrana are
looking at an alternative signing this summer after failing to land Arsenal
captain Cesc Fabregas but claims that they will make a decision only after
searching their 'B' team.
The Spanish champions have been a long-time admirer of Fabregas and had
placed two bids for the 23-year-old this summer, only for Arsenal to reject
both of them. Barca's chase for the Spain international eventually drew to a
close on Friday when Fabregas himself officially stated that he will not
leave the Emirates this summer.
Barca vice-president Bartomeu has admitted that they will not try to sign the
World Cup winner anymore this summer and has indicated that they will look to
recruit from elsewhere, but only after searching their 'B' team.
ESPNSoccernet quotes Bartomeu as saying, "First we'll look at the B team and
then we'll take a decision. We never start from scratch - the club is always
working on these things."
He added, "We made two offers [for Fabregas] - one in June and another at the
beginning of August - but Arsenal didn't want to sell him and they didn't
accept our offers. They didn't put a price on him - they just declared he was
not for sale.
"We made a reasonable offer, a common sense amount, but they just said 'no'.
There was no mention of a counter offer. If Arsenal had wanted to sell, Cesc
was more than willing.
"The current board found ourselves dealing with a club, Arsenal, who were
angry at Barca. "What is certain is that the Cesc saga is over for this
summer."
The Barcelona vice-president also stated that Alexander Hleb, Martin Caceres
and Victor Sanchez will leave Camp Nou before the start of the 2010-11 season.
"We are talking to a few clubs about loaning them out. There are different
options and we are looking at what is best for the club and the players."
