It's clear now that Chen will never be superstar player originally visioned.
With two years at Triple-A under his belt, we can safely conclude that he
would be a .240-.260 hitter at the major league level (possibly .220-.230 in
Dodger Stadium). He could hit 20-25 homers in a full season, and he'd draw
enough walks to have a not-too-terrible on-base percentage. But his speed is
gone, and he's no great shakes defensively at either outfield or first base.
He still has plus bat speed, but hasn't developed much inement in his hitting
approach. There are lots of guys with his skill set stalled in Triple-A.
He'll need some measure of luck now to get a job."
I don't see any particular reason to change any of that. His '04 Las Vegas
numbers are nearly identical to his '03 numbers, just a bit more home run
power but not enough to really change his outlook. And he's another year
older and deeper in debt. And in the end the love you take is equal to the
love you make. A simple lyric, really, but with more truth in it than twenty
theology texts. As for Chen, he needs a change of scenery as much as anyone.
I think he's one of the more disappointing prospects of the last few years.
He went from looking like a Seven Skill star to a Triple-A slugger who can't
break .290 in Las Vegas.
看不懂的請不要問,這是一個心酸的故事...
