Coach Jose Peseiro and executive director Paulo de Andrade resigned on Tuesday following a string of disappointing results. "The decision that I took, although it was done in the best interests of Sporting, hurt me in an intolerable way," Dias da Cunha said in a statement on Sporting's website. He had headed the Lisbon club since 2000. Sporting suffered their second successive defeat on Sunday, going down 1-0 at home to struggling Academica. Peseiro left on Tuesday, citing bad results which have left Sporting in seventh spot in the Portguese first division table, five points behind leaders Sporting Braga.
