KEY BISCAYNE, Florida -- Tatiana Golovin is expected to be sidelined four to
six weeks after injuring her left ankle in her semifinal loss at the Nasdaq-100
Open, the WTA Tour said Friday.
Golovin tore two ligaments and bruised a bone when she twisted her ankle and
fell chasing a shot in the third set of her match Thursday night against Maria
Sharapova.
After a trainer taped Golovin's ankle, she played one more point but was forced
to retire with Sharapova serving and leading 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 4-3, ad in.
The 18-year-old Golovin won the crowd's favor by rallying from a 5-1 deficit in
the second set and overcoming four match points to even the match. She received
a standing ovation as she limped off the court afterward with an arm around a
trainer.
Golovin will be in a cast for 10 days, the tour said. She hopes to return for
the clay court tournament in Berlin beginning May 8, three weeks before the
French Open.
