Roger Federer hires Australian coach Darren Cahill for ATP comeback By Robert Grant March 10, 2009 Roger Federer has decided to resume his Australian coaching connection, hiring Darren Cahill to guide him in his return to the ATP Tour. The world No.2 and Cahill, who has previously coached Andre Agassi and Lleyton Hewitt, will begin their association at the Indian Wells event starting on Wednesday. Cahill and Federer, who has been off the circuit for six weeks with a back injury, have been working together in Dubai, where the Swiss star has a base. Federer has previously worked with other Australian coaches Peter Carter, who passed away in 2002, and Tony Roche. Federer's agent Tony Godsick confirmed Cahill will guide Federer initially in his comeback but would not say how long the two would work together. The Swiss maestro hasn't played since losing to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final in January. “Yes, the two have met in Dubai and played a few balls together,” Godsick revealed. “It is a test for both - one cannot yet say whether it will be something long term. They'll work together now and see how it works out. “The two have long had a great respect for each other - It was occasionally discussed - now that Roger's had a break, anyway, because of his back, the timing was perfect for the test. “Although they know and respect each other it could be that their personalities do not match.” Under Cahill's tutelage, Hewitt became the youngest player to end the year at No.1 while at 33, Agassi became the oldest to hold top spot. Carter coached Federer through his formative years while Roche guided him to six of his 13 grand slam titles. Federer has won three successive Indian Wells titles, the last in 2006. Since then, rivals Novak Djokovic and Nadal have taken the honours at the Tennis Garden. The 27-year-old Swiss missed last weekend's Davis Cup tie against the United States due to his sore back, where Switzerland were beaten 4-1. But Federer's physiotherapist Pierre Pagannini says he will be ready for a month-long run of US hardcourt tournaments in California and Florida. No.1 seed Nadal will defend his Indian Wells title after leading Spain into the Davis Cup quarter-finals over Djokovic's Serbia. (這邊寫錯就別管他了,要衛冕的是 Djokovic) http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,25166580-23210,00.html 四夫是確定了。然後 Rogi 好像在 IW 會跟 Yves 合作雙打 -- But there is nothin' like the sight...of an amputated spirit. There is no prosthetic for that. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.230.80.170 ※ 編輯: iliketea 來自: 61.230.80.170 (03/10 23:03)
