Ah yes, I read this book when I was in high school. It's a pretty interesting book, in my opinion. (Even though it doesn't fit my taste). Generally speaking, there are 3 people you need to place your focus on: McMurphy, the main character, the liberator, Nurse Ratched, the ruler, who signified power, Chief Bromden, the narrator. Other than that, try to focus on the character development of the patients. For example, the Chief never spoke in the beginning of the book, and how McMurphy try to understand Chief, and try to get him to speak. Of course, there are price to pay for going against the authority [Nurse Ratched]. When you read the book, you will see that on certain characters. You know, this also implies the so-called "Civil Disobedience" that happened in American history, when African Americans protesting for their rights. On the last note, I'll tell you the meaning of the book's name. It came from a children's song: "One flew to the east, one flew to the west, one flew over Cuckoo's nest". "East" means the direction where the sun comes up, which signifies Chief Bromden. Because he finally find out the meaning of his life, etc. The one "flew to the west" is Nurse Ratched, because her power broke down. The one "Flew over cuckoo's nest" is McMurphy. Since he is the one who lead others to battle. I suggest you go to http://www.gradesaver.com/ClassicNotes/Titles/cuckoosnest/ to read some analysis regarding this book, or you can ask me for more questions. -- Sincerely, Albert -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 130.126.244.14
