在美國麥卡鍚主義中，Murrow引用Harold Laski書中的話：
I belived 20 years ago and I believe today that mature American can engage
in conversation and controversy, the clash of ideas with Communists anywhere
in the world without becoming contaminated or converted.
我20年前這樣相信，且今天我還是這樣相信：一個成熟的美國人可以與世界
上任何地區的共產主義者進行對話，爭辯，與思想爭論，而不會被污染或說服。
I believe that our faith, our conviction, our determination are stronger than
theirs and that we can compete and succeed not only in the area of bombs
but in the area of ideas.
