Two computer companies, Garnet and Renco, each pay Salcor to provide health
insurance for their employees. Because early treatment of high cholesterol
can prevent strokes that would otherwise occur several years later, Salcor
encourages Garnet employees to have their cholesterol levels tested and to
obtain early treatment for high cholesterol. Renco employees generally remain
with Renco only for a few years, however. Therefore, Salcor lacks any
financial incentive to provide similar encouragement to Renco employees.
這題的誘因「不是」兩公司的員工有經濟誘因而去做體檢。而是保險公司自己有
沒有經濟上的誘因，去勸說兩公司的員工做體檢。
因為若能早期檢測出高膽固醇，並且加以治療，那麼這些員工就不會在多年後發
生中風。這樣一來，儘管保險公司要付出檢測費用以及膽固醇的治療費用，但卻
可能避免支付高額的中風治療費用。所以對於保險公司的財務有正面的好處，因
此保險公司自己有經濟上的誘因，來說服電腦公司員工早做檢查。
而 Renco 公司員工因為流動率高，所以就算目前有高膽固醇，但是要引發中風
還需要多年時間，而到那時，這些員工早就不在 Salcor 的承保範圍內，也不必
負擔其中風而生的理賠費用，因此「保險公司自己」沒有經濟上的誘因，來說服
Renco公司員工去做體檢。

說的是這批早先在 Renco 公司工作的人，許多都會到轉職到 Garnet 公司，所
以將來還是會成為 Salcor 的被保險人，到時這些人的身體疾病，都會成為
Salcor 理賠的範圍，所以為了防範於未然，還是現在趕緊勸這些人做體檢，以
免將來發生中風，自己要負擔理賠金。因此「保險公司自己」有了經濟上的誘因
來說服這些人現在作體檢。因而反駁上文。
