: 請問以下兩題pp1-50& pp1-87是否為S+V+O的比較? 若是,為何pp1-87的"women : living in the Northeast and Midwest"不需補出動詞? 其它部份恕刪 : PP1-50. : Many teenagers undergo stress, but results of a recent study indicate that : the patterns of stress that girls experience are more likely to result in : depression than are those that boys experience. : ------------------------------- : (A) are those that boys experience ans:(A) 此題比較處為 the patterns of stress that girls experience are ---------------(a)-------------------------- more likely to result in depression than are those that boys experience ----------(b)------------- 寫得較清楚一點,此題的意思應為 (a) are more likely to result in depression than (b) are [to result in depression] 中文:(a)比(b)更容易造成depression ( 比較(a)與(b) ) 此處(b)部份若未補出are,則可能變為以下意思: (a) are more likely to result in depression than [in] (b) 中文:(a)較容易造成depression,而較不容易造成(b) (比較"depression"與(b)) 因為這裡全部都是"物",故要補出"are"以避免造成混淆 (有 "人" 也有 "物" 的見下題) ===================================================================== : PP1-87. : Results of a United States study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine : have shown college-educated women and women living in the South and West to : ---------------------------------------------------------------- : be significantly more likely to be using supplemental hormones as women : ----------------------------------------------------------------------- : living in the Northeast and Midwest. : ------ : (E) that college-educated women and women living in the South and West are : significantly more likely to use supplemental hormones than women living : ans:(E) 此處文意應為 (a) are more likely to use hormones than (b) [are to use hormones] 但這裡即使不補出are 也不會造成 (a) 較傾向use hormones,而不是use (b) 因為(b)是人,hormones是物,這裡很清楚 ================================================================ 附註: 其實外國人會說, 補不補出動詞要看會不會ambigious, 但是我覺得光看"句意"的話, 事實上第一題也不太會ambigious, 我認為使用詞本身的性質來判斷可能會好一些 (人、物...等等) ================================================================ Example: (以下轉錄自Manhattan) A verb is optional, unless the comparison is unclear or could be misinterpreted without it. "Jerry likes George more than a root canal." This is clear: Jerry has a preference between George and a root canal. No verb necessary, though it wouldn't be wrong to use one, just wordy: "Jerry likes George more than he likes a root canal." "Jerry likes George more than Elaine." This is not clear: Does Jerry have a preference between George and Elaine? Or do Jerry and Elaine differ in their feelings about George? To clear up the confusion, you must use a verb: (1) "Jerry likes George more than he likes Elaine." (Notice that "he" = Jerry, not George, as both are subjects of their respective verbs. Parallelism prevents a true pronoun ambiguity emergency, though the GMAT might still use Jerry's name instead of the pronoun to be clear.) (2) "Jerry likes George more than Elaine does." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.112.4.170 ※ 編輯: scrokatrs 來自: 140.112.4.170 (10/04 11:15)
