句子尾巴後綴的earlier應該是修飾前面部分句子的概念。
這時就要依據"七分句意，三分文法"的GMAC出題趨勢，
由句意合理推斷was的主語應為indicate [that....]
這一個名詞子句被當作一件"事實"，因此用單數was可以理解。
而這裡的比較前後項好像沒有平行考點。
was在這裡應該是不能省略的，若省略則無法辨別究竟是
過去簡單主動的(S.) believed
還是
過去簡單被動的(S.) (was) believed)
會造成句子理解歧義的，我們都不應該選。

事實上，這題僅憑
1. indicates 與主詞主謂一致
2. indicates + that 用名詞子句較能完整表達事實，不會句意斷裂
3. that 子句內主詞長相要盡量平行
就可在一分鐘之內解完。
