我們來看看加上of 跟that 的兩種情況：
expectations of personal spending in the July-September quarter,
more than doubling...（此處舉D為例）
expectations that personal spending in the July-September quarter would more
than double...（正解B）
expectation of的of其實只能接到personal spending in the July-September quarter，
後面原本應該是人們預期的事件核心「加倍」卻沒辦法被of接到
這句話就變成：「對七到九月個人消費的預期」會超過加倍。
可是「expectation」怎麼會「double」？是抽象的概念名詞，又不是數量詞
所以，當今天要表達的事情不能簡簡單單用一個核心名詞表達時，
我們就乾脆把一整句話用that子句接在概念性名詞（如這邊的expectation）後面，
做名詞同位語，這樣整句話的概念都等同於expectation，意思就完整了：
expectations [that personal spending in the July-September quarter would more
than double...]
另外再補充：反過來說，若是要表達的核心概念可以用一個詞來概括的話，
就不用特別再寫成一個句子。
如這個正確句子：
108. Reporting that one of its many problems had been
the recent extended sales slump in women's apparel,...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
因為slump（n. 嚴重下跌）本身就是問題的核心概念，
所以句子不用再寫成：
Reporting that one of its many problems had been
that recent sales slump extended in women's apparel,...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
自己試著將以上這兩個句子各讀一遍，就能夠感受何謂精簡與清晰。
原本的句子更流暢，且無損句意。
