Dounts 老師這種解釋應該是說不通的。
第一：不加 are 的時候，根據 Dounts 說會被看成這樣
because they enhance reproduction or survival,
but simply random by-products
但是，誰會這樣看？請問這句話有任何意義嗎？
第二：若依照 Dounts 的解釋，那加上 are 也會（可以）被看成
because they enhance reproduction or survival,
but are simply random by-products
那照樣也有錯。
第三：根據 Dounts 說，
平行方式如下:
biological traits are not the products,
(because they enhance reproduction or survival,) --> 插入
but are simply random by-products
但是如此一來， not 後面接名詞 the products， but 的後面接動詞 are，
這樣哪裡有平行？
所以，這題的(C) (D) 答案差別不是這樣解釋的。
