Haas to quit Davis Cup?

Germany's Tommy Haas has revealed that this weekend's first round clash may
be his last Davis Cup appearance.

The 29-year-old, who has played in Davis Cup regularly since 1998 and
recorded a 19-7 win-loss, wants his departure to make way for younger players
to revive a deflated German team.

Three-time champion Germany returned to the World Group last year after a
two-year absence, but has not won a first round tie since 2001.

"I'm not the youngest anymore, I've dedicated my whole career pretty much to
Davis Cup," said Haas, who has lost his three most recent Davis Cup ties. "If
you don't have that much success in something you put so much effort into for
so many years, you have to be able to let it go and let the younger
generation take it to another level."

The world No. 10's imminent departure coincides with the arrival of Benjamin
Becker, who came into prominence when he sent Andre Agassi into retirement at
the 2006 US Open. Becker makes his Davis Cup debut this weekend in Krefeld,
where his team takes on 2005 champions Croatia.
