Here is a hint. Consider the case for 1<= i,j<=2, we have
u^t A u = [x y z][1 1/2 1/2][x] with u^t u = 1.
[1/2 1 1/2][y]
[1/2 1/2 1][z]
So the eigenvalues of A are 2, 1/2, 1/2 (This is not hard to be verified).
Hence the original solution is 1 + 99/2 = 101/2.
