Dodgers reliever Kuo just happy to be playing By Jill Painter Staff Writer Posted: 07/12/2010 09:56:29 PM PDT ANAHEIM - Hong-Chih Kuo was a last-minute addition to the All-Star team, but he's enjoying every second of it. During Monday's All-Star interview session, Kuo grabbed a Dodgers microphone and cameraman, then found Dodgers reliever Jonathan Broxton at his table and made like a reporter. Kuo, the Dodgers' setup man, asked Broxton: "Do you know about Hong-Chih Kuo?" Broxton laughed, then said he did because Kuo has a good changeup. In Taiwan, Kuo is a big deal. He's the first Taiwanese-born player to be named to an All-Star team. Because he was named to the team so late, none of his family and friends from Taiwan will make today's game, but they'll watch on television. Kuo is just happy to be here. "It's special for me, but I'm just trying to stay healthy," Kuo said. "After all those surgeries, I'm just happy I can be here." Kuo has had four elbow surgeries and gone through extensive rehabilitation to keep pitching at the major-league level. This season, Kuo is 3-1 with a 1.03 ERA and no left-hander has a hit against him. Lefties are 0 for 30 against Kuo. "I'm just trying to pitch strikes," Kuo said. "My breaking ball is better, and my slider is better. After surgery, I was scared to use my curveball." Kuo was named as a replacement for injured Braves outfielder Jason Heyward. Kuo wasn't one of the frustrated Dodgers when he didn't originally make the All-Star team. "I never got that into my mind," Kuo said. "I never thought about it." http://www.presstelegram.com/sports/ci_15502119 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 114.45.177.34
