BERLIN 07 - She Is A Champion

The Belgian Houdini appeared again in Berlin on Saturday to escape from yet
more impossible situations. Justine defeated Jelena Jankovic in a light
suspended match from Friday to win after looking down and done at 0-4 in the
third set. Henin took control in masterclass mode and won the last six games
3-6 6-4 6-4. Justine returned back to her beloved Steffi Graf Stadium at
around 5:20 pm to play her second opponent of the day; Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Again, Justine lost the first set only to win the second with light and rain
suspending the match at nightfall 3-6 7-5 2-3. The semi-final will resume at
11:00 am, and the winner will play the finals against Serbian Ana Ivanovic
later today
"I don't know how that could happen. I thought I had everything under control
and I am really upset, I was so close to beating her. She played
unbelievably, she didn't make a mistake until it was 4-4 or something. I'm
very disappointed. She is a champion. She is the only one I have trouble
against, I have beaten all the other Top 10 players" - Jelena
"It's always difficult to explain how that happens but I fought all the way.
I think she was a little nervous at the end." - Justine
In deja vu of Friday, Justine played throughout rain delays, and two
opponents in a single day on Saturday. The QF with Jelena was rain delayed
from 11 am, and began 3 hours later. Justine held her opening service game to
an advantage game at 5-4. Jankovic knuckled under pressure as Justine grabbed
the second set 6-4.
The endless tape loop of sets looked to have taken the best out of Justine
when Jelena sped off to a phantom 4-0 score in the third set. But the lead
was a hallucination for Jankovic as Justine found her F1 racing form and
rallied six games in a row to win the final set 6-4.
The awe struck German Open audience gathered later Saturday at 5:20 pm for
Justine's 2nd act; the semi-final with Svetlana Kuznetsova. Surreal, but true
- Henin's level of play continued where she left off from the Jankovic match
with aces making an appearance in service games for the Belgian. The match
resumes 3-6 7-5 2-3 with Justine on serve at 11 am today.
