http://0rz.tw/SNeQj This wasn't some optical illusion, was it? Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard really did foul out? Here it is, in the official play-by-play: 3 minutes, 32 seconds left, and All-Star Howard commits his sixth personal foul, attempting to block a Raymond Felton layup. Felton makes the resulting free throw and the Charlotte Bobcats lead 80-79. And then....wretched. The Bobcats were outscored 11-6 to lose 90-86 and fall behind 3-0 in this best-of-7 playoff series. If the Bobcats don't win Monday, they'll be swept in their first playoff appearance. It seemingly never occurred to the home team that the greatest shot-blocker in the NBA was imprisoned on the bench. Four of the Bobcats' last six shots were 3-pointers, and all four were misses. "It was kind of a blur to me,'' said Bobcats guard Stephen Jackson of how poorly they performed in a Howard-free zone. "We weren't getting to the rim and our spacing was terrible. It was like he wasn't out of the game.'' This was a microcosm of the Bobcats' season: Brilliant defensively but too often scatterbrained on offense. Twenty-three of their 74 shot attempts were 3-pointers, and as various Bobcats have admitted all season, this is not a team that can rely on jump shots. The player best equipped to drive the ball to the rim, Gerald Wallace, never took a shot in the fourth quarter, scoring just one of his 13 points in that period. "I don't know if Gerald touched the ball in the fourth quarter. He has to be more involved,'' said coach Larry Brown. "I didn't know we run every play on one side (of the court). When the ball is on the right side, and Gerald is on the left, he might as well run back.'' If that sounds exasperated, then you grasp Brown's tone. He knows his team has played great defense in this series, Saturday best of all. Returning to the trapping style they thrived on late in the regular season, the Bobcats forced 21 turnovers, resulting in 31 Charlotte points. But when they weren't in transition, they acted as if there was a rule against the ball going into the lane. "I never thought I'd coach a team where one-third of our shots would be 3s,'' Brown said. "We can't take 23 3s.'' Certainly not when you make only five of them. Jackson led Bobcats scoring with 19 points, but he was 1-of-7 outside the arc. Point guards Felton and D.J. Augustin were a combined 0-of-7 on 3s. The Magic is obviously very good, and point guard Jameer Nelson was spectacular with 32 points. But Brown knows this was a blown opportunity. "I want us to run on every play, and if we don't have an easy shot, I want us to have some organization,'' Brown said. "We defended well. We just have to do a better job of executing.'' Time is running out; they're down to their last 48 minutes Monday. -- A-Rod D.Jeter J.Posada R.Clemen R.Cano M.Cairo H.Matsui M.Cabrer B.Abreu NY ˍ NY ˍ NY ˍ NY ˍ NY ˍ NY ˍ NY ˍ NY ˍ NY ˙ ˙ ● ● ● ●⊙ ⊙ ˙ ˙. . ⊙ ⊙ω> < ⊙ ⊙ ε \ ∵ ▽ ∵\ /██\ \\██ /■■■-◎/██ /██\ /██\ <██y /██ ↖/██> The| \ New<< York◢▼◣ Ya||nkees / ╰↘ ││mψwillmango \ \, Ptt| ╰ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.169.44.222
