Some Props For Colangelo: Say what you want about Raptors president Bryan
Colangelo, but you have to hand it to him… He's turned the lemons of losing
Chris Bosh into some interesting lemonade.
Individually some of the moves made so far have been puzzling, but when put
them all together the Raptors could be a better team going forward and here's
why…
Ed Davis can play… after two Summer League games, Davis has been very
impressive, far better than anyone expected.
Sonny Weems showed up in Vegas ready to play himself and has been a monster.
DeMar DeRozan showed up with a nice mid-range jump shot and a better focus on
improving.
Jarrett Jack has assumed the role of team leader and has been with his team
in Vegas every day acting as mentor and coach.
Yesterday the Raptors shipped off Hedo Turkoglu to Phoenix and got Leandro
Barbosa in return and have a deal that's likely to drop today which will
return Boris Diaw for Jose Calderon and Tyson CHandler for the trade
exception the team obtained from Miami in the Bosh sign-and-trade deal.
Colangelo has gotten some heat for the reported $34 million contract given to
Amir Johnson, which is in fact worth just at $30 million according to sources
that have seen the actual contract. $30 million is still a lot of Johnson,
but when you consider what the Raptors are bringing to training camp in
October, the team may be deeper, more athletic and younger than last year's
squad, and they could be far more dynamic offensively.
The proof is in the pudding as they say, so time will tell if the Raptors are
better, but what seemed like a colossal failure a few days ago is looking
much better today.
