Irish duo to miss big kick-off
Robbie Keane and Richard Dunne look set to miss the start of the new
Premiership season.
Tottenham forward Keane and Manchester City defender Dunne have both
been forced to pull of Republic of Ireland's squad to take on Holland
on Wednesday because of injury.
Keane is struggling with a thigh problem which saw him miss Tottenham's
final pre-season game of the season against Real Sociedad at the weekend.
Dunne is suffering with a hamstring injury he picked up in training and
his injury is thought to be more serious that Keane's.
Keane is expected to be sidelined for up 10 days meaning he will miss the
Premiership opener at Bolton this weekend and the home clash with Sheffield
United.
Dunne is set to miss the games with Chelsea, Portsmouth and Arsenal in August.
Ireland boss Steve Staunton revealed he expects both players to be sidelined
for the start of the new season.
"In Robbie's case we are possibly looking at a 10-day period, with Richard's
maybe a little longer," said Staunton.
The news will come as a blow to Tottenham boss Martin Jol and City counterpart
Stuart Pearce as both players are key components to their squads.
