小朋友們。
Dorian, 19, said: "I think it is really positive that the Club allows local
children to learn at a place like White Hart Lane. The kids I met today have
all achieved something and I was pleased to be here and show my support."
Dave Lyall, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation's Playing for Success co-ordinator,
added: "Playing for Success is an inspirational project. The children
attending this term have made incredible progress, not just in their academic
levels but in self-esteem too. You can see them buzzing with excitement when
they come through the gates of the Club. Graduation is the icing on the cake
for them and really celebrates their achievements."
Playing for Success is part of a national initiative co-ordinated by the
Department for Education & Skills, which uses out-of-hours learning to raise
attainment at Key Stage Two & Three in literacy and numeracy.
Over 20 Haringey schools each year have the opportunity to send pupils to the
Tottenham Hotspur Foundation's Playing for Success, and pupils attend
two-hour sessions each week for a total of ten weeks, during which they are
offered a unique educational experience where skills taught in school are
enhanced and developed.
Each session is delivered by a trained teacher and assisted by a team of
dedicated Learning Mentors, who are recruited locally and represent the
balance of ethnic groups within Haringey.
Ellie Kolatsi, a teacher from Mulberry Primary School said: "Playing for
Success is a well planned and managed project. Dave and the mentors have an
exceptional ability to think about the needs of every child, thus creating an
exciting atmosphere where children are proud of their achievements. The
Graduation is the final chapter of their journey, but they have experienced
an innovative and creative way of learning for the future."
Tutors and mentors are trained to develop and raise self-esteem. As a result,
the Spurs Learning Zone provides a positive learning environment.
