Fans want him, so Iverson should be an All-Star

Does Allen Iverson even deserve to be an All-Star, let alone
a starter?
Based on his play and his numbers, no. He’s not an All-Star. His defense isn
’t any good. His scoring has been sporadic. And he hasn’t had any
significant impact on the Pistons.
But he’s still a popular player, and the fans like him, so of course he
should start. I have never understood the beef that some have against fan
voting. It’s like the popularity contest somehow ruins the sanctity of the
All-Star game. The game is a joke. It’s essentially a pick-up game with no
defense. Lobs are thrown all over the court like T-shirts from the Palace
Patrol. So it really doesn’t hurt the game that much if Allen Iverson is
starting or if the nod goes to someone else.
The game is for the fans, though fewer and fewer seem to care. So if the fans
want AI, they should get AI.
Selfishly, I’m hoping he goes to Phoenix (site of this year’s game) and
rediscovers his game. I’d love to see some run-and-gun from Allen Iverson
that might translate back to the Pistons.
