"There's disappointment about being knocked out; they were two evenly
balanced matches which were decided by episodes. Two matches in which Dida
was extraordinary because he saved everything," said Roberto Mancini after
the Uefa Champions League quarter-final second leg against AC Milan,
abandoned with 17 minutes left on the clock.
"I'm pleased with what the team did. The boys battled throughout and were
never inferior to Milan. But we're disappointed about how it finished."
Mancini added: "Our game plan was to try to create scoring chances with the
wingers, but they scored from their first shot on goal. We wanted to score a
goal so we could put more strikers on. We always showed our pride, but
sometimes episodes decide matches. I didn't want to give reference points for
Milan's central defenders today, we were hoping to create more problems for
them with just one striker and two wingers. The abandoned match? We're
disappointed about what happened, we can't say much more than that. We will
see what happens."
