It has been the worst kept secret in Turin for some time now, but finally 
yesterday Juventus made it official that Alessandro Del Piero will remain 
a Bianconeri player next season. The club legend has signed a 12-month 
contract extension that will see him chalk up a 19th term with the Old 
Lady, and will further solidify his position as one of the club’s 
greatest ever servants. But whereas with some older statesmen a new deal 
can often be awarded more out of sentimentality, Del Piero’s is both 
worthy and necessary as the club look to get back among the trophies next 
season.

作為Turin最廣為人知的秘密，昨天Juventus終於正式宣布明年Del Piero仍將繼續

The No. 10’s continued importance to the Vinovo side cannot be 
overstated, as he has remained a constant positive force during otherwise 
troubled times in Piedmont in the last five years. After Calciopoli he 
stayed on to fire 41 goals in his next two seasons, winning the golden 
boot on the club’s return to Serie A after demotion. And while he has 
bagged 29 more league goals since then, it has been in his all-round 
contribution that he has added most to the current side.

過去這紛紛擾擾的五年以來，Del Piero一直是股堅定的動力，這樣持續的重要性

While a huge turnaround in playing personnel has taken place in the last 
half-decade, Del Piero has not only stayed with the club but has remained 
one of their most effective players. Vincenzo Iaquinta, Amauri, Michele 
Paolucci, Fabio Quagliarella, Alessandro Matri and most notably Diego have 
all been brought in over the past few years as successive Juve boards have 
attempted to freshen up the forward line in light of the Conegliano product
’s advancing years, but still he remains their key attacker.

When changes were made in the summer of 2009 it was expected that they 
would lead to a slow transition of power from Del Piero to Diego in the 
withdrawn striker’s role, but after initial success for the Brazilian, 
equilibrium was restored. The multi-million euro signing failed to live up 
to the expectations which had been created by his predecessor’s play over 
the previous 16 years in Turin. It was a disappointment for Juventus, but 
the silver lining was that Del Piero’s performance level never dropped. 
His new deal will mean him outlasting Diego by at least two years, which 
seemed highly improbable when the former Werder Bremen man arrived in 
Italy.

So when club president Andrea Agnelli described Del Piero’s new deal 
yesterday as “easy”, he was talking about more than just the 
negotiations. The decision to keep this particular 36-year-old forward on 
as a key first-team player was a no-brainer. In a period during which the 
club has struggled to juggle squad turnover with the pursuit of trophies, 
there have been few senior players who have painted themselves in the 
greatest of lights, but Del Piero continues to shine.

因此，當球隊主席Andrea Agnelli以「easy」來形容昨天Del Piero簽下的合約時，
可不是單純指協商過程，不用想也知道該讓這位36歲的前鋒擔任一線隊核心。在這段

His new contract reaffirms his position as a Juventus great and also means 
that he will get to lead out his side at the new Delle Alpi when it opens 
in August. And while the curve at the Olimpico are named after another 
club icon in Gaetano Scirea, the ultimate honour could yet be reserved for 
the ultimate No. 10. Stadio Alessandro Del Piero, anyone? It definitely 
has to be a consideration.

Del Piero的新合約再次確立Juve傳奇的地位，同時也表示在八月，新Delle Alpi球場
開幕時，他將帶領Juve重新亮相。Olimpico球場的南看台已經以另一位球隊傳奇
