Boyband WeWe, Karen a hit with fans By CAMILLA CHIAM ABOUT 10,000 people flocked to Ngee Ann City's Civic Plaza last night to catch their favourite stars in The Next Wave, MediaWorks' first anniversary concert celebration. At 8 pm, Kit Chan kicked off the evening with two songs from the Channel U show Cash Is King. Later, Constance Song, Cynthia Lee, Evelyn Tan and Lina Ng sang and danced to Lady Marmalade in three-inch heels and stripped to skimpy costumes. But the fans saved their loudest applause for Taiwanese boyband WeWe and Hongkong singer-actress Karen Mok. While WeWe drew ear-splitting shrieks from the crowd, Mok, who came on in a denim mini-dress, gave a sizzling performance. About 60 teenage fans had gathered at the venue at 10 am yesterday to get front-stage seats for the free concert. They braved the blazing afternoon sun with paper fans bearing Karen Mok's face. Student Lin Hui Jing, 15, said: 'It's worth it for Karen Mok. I think she's a nice and generous person.' A second free concert tonight at 7.30 pm will feature Hongkong actress-singer Miriam Yeung, Channel U's Celest Chong and Hongkong boy band EO2.
